THE reason for the season – Part 1

By December 22, 2015No Comments

Jesus is the real reason for celebrating Christmas. And it is worth celebrating! Think about it. Do you realize how significant Christmas is? It’s absolutely AMAZING that each year at this time, over 2 Billion people around the world, are going to celebrate the birth of a Baby that was born thousands of years ago. And that number increases every year!! Just think about the impact this Baby had on the world.
Just think about it. We are all celebrating a Baby that was born so long ago. In fact, Jesus birth was so impactful that it split history in two. When Baby Jesus was born, His birth, His life split history in two. Every time we write the date on a check, or a document we are referencing the life of Jesus. Thousands of years have past since His birth yet billions of people around the world continue to celebrate. But its more than the fact that He was an amazing person. Jesus was God in the flesh.

And the reason that so many people celebrate His birth is found in the words of Isaiah the prophet.

The Bible records this in Isaiah 9:6.

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

So in our next few posts, lets just look at these names.

Lets look at the first one.

Isaiah says that Jesus would be called Wonderful, Counselor. He was born to be your Wonderful Counselor. Question. What does that mean?? Because when we hear the word counselor, we often think of a school counselor, or someones therapist.  But when you look up this word counselor do you know what it means? It means advisor. Someone who gives you advice, gives you a plan and gives you a purpose. Jesus came to be your daily advisor. He wants to give you daily counsel, daily mentoring, daily guidance, TO LEAD YOU INTO THE BEST LIFE YOU CAN HAVE HERE ON EARTH. And He is not just any counselor, Isaiah says that He is a WONDERFUL counselor. That means that He will give you MIRACLE advice. Jesus came into this world, He was born, so He could be your Wonderful Counselor and He’ll give you miraculous advice.

And I just think about the counsel and advice that Jesus has given me since I turned my life over to Him. Jesus wants to give you wonderful advice in every area of your life. And if you have a relationship with Him, He’ll give you that. He’s given me wonderful counsel on things like how to manage my money. He’s taught me how to budget, how to save, how to give, how to be content with what I have. He’s taught me how to invest. He has taught me how to be a father. I have 3 daughters and 2 sons and now 2 sons-in-law and I’ve been married to Jodie now for going on 25 years. Jesus has given me great advice on how to be a better father. He’s given me advice vocationally. He’s told me, “Don’t take that job Dino, take this one. No, no, no. Not that one. This one. Here’s how you solve this problem at work. Here is how you can be patient and not quit when you wanna quit.” And just getting great wonderful counsel on the job. And then in my marriage, Oh man Jesus has given me such great counsel. You know there was a time in our marriage that we really hit a rough patch and we got to the point where we were wondering if we were even going to make it. And I tell you, the counsel He has given me to keep our marriage together has been priceless. He said things to me that the counselors didn’t say and they were the very things that kept us together. And have helped me to be a better husband. And when I say that He is a wonderful counselor, I just tell you from my experience, it’s true! He’s not an ordinary counselor, He’s a wonderful counselor
