Jesus is the real reason for celebrating Christmas. And in this series of posts we are talking about how significant Christmas is. It’s absolutely AMAZING that each year at this time, over 2 Billion people around the world, are going to celebrate the birth of a Baby that was born thousands of years ago. And that number increases every year!! Just think about the impact this Baby had on the world!
And the reason that so many people celebrate His birth is found in the words of Isaiah the prophet.
The Bible records this in Isaiah 9:6.
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
In our last post we saw He is our wonderful, counselor. Lets continue down the list and look deeper into these names.
Lets look at the next one.
Isaiah said He not only came to be that but He also came to be your Mighty God. Now what does that mean? Mighty means that He came to be your valiant warrior. The word mighty means possessing great and impressive power or strength. Picture yourself being in a battle, your enemy is chasing you and you’re running towards Jesus this Mighty God, this Warrior God, and as your enemy is chasing you, you run behind Jesus and He gets in front of you as you take cover behind Him and He stands there in between you and your enemy like an impenetrable fortress wall. And He’s got your back. He’s a mighty, powerful warrior. And, you know, the reality is, we need a warrior by our side because we all go through battles in life. I mean we go through health battles, financial battles, relationship battles, job battles…we even go into battles with the prince of darkness. But Jesus is RIGHT THERE SAYING, “I will be not only your Wonderful Counselor, I am your Mighty God!” We triumph in Jesus name.
And so as you celebrate Christmas, really celebrate because Jesus is your Mighty God!
