Your Home – A Spiritual Activity Center

By February 22, 2016No Comments

As you read the New Testament, it becomes unmistakably obvious that Jesus used the home as the center of spiritual activity.  We can list numerous examples from the scriptures where we see Jesus ministering in homes.

On one occasion, the hunger for the ministry of Jesus in a home was so sought after that some men tore off the roof to lower their friend so that he could be near Jesus.

On another occasion, while Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s home, a bunch of tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples.

On another occasion Jesus was at Peter’s home and Jesus saw Peter’s mother-in-law sick with a fever.  Jesus touched her hand and the fever left her.

And on yet another occasion, Jesus saw Zacchaeus in a tree and said to him, “ Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”

Even to the casual reader, there is plain evidence of the home as a nucleus for prayer, worship, Biblical teaching, breaking of bread, hospitality, ministry to the sick and happy genuine relationships.  The home was the place where the truth, justice, mercy and goodness of God were revealed to families and we need to restore the role that the household played in the ministry of Jesus.

We want to disciple parents so they can model their home as a sort of mini-church.  We are reminding parents to restore their household as a center for ministry.  And to use their household to reveal to the disciples that God has given to them, a full panorama of who Jesus is.  Your household is the place God intended that to happen.  The family is where God intended that to happen.  And its one of the most important things we will ever do as parents!
