Power in our words

By December 27, 2015No Comments

Did you know words carry enormous power, the power to heal or hurt, encourage or discourage, speak truth or deceive, praise or criticize? God used His words to create the world. Words have the power to create or destroy. In a way they are like arrows shot into the air. After we release them, we can’t take them back. If we don’t aim them carefully, the result could be fatal. We should consider the impact of every word that comes out of our mouth!

The Bible says that we’ll give an account for idle words at the judgment, because in those cases where we use idle words, we let the devil speak through us and we end up helping him accomplish his will on the earth BUT God wants His will accomplished on the earth not the devils.

Ephesians 4:29 says Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

So, before you speak ask yourself the question, “Are these words going to encourage my spouse or offend?”
If it is offensive, DON’T SAY IT! We should only be speaking encouraging words. Even to our spouses! Even when we don’t feel like it we can obey God’s word.

By the grace of God we CAN change how we talk to each other. We can show that we value our spouses by saying encouraging words about them, both to them and to others; including our children.

We CAN have unity and peace in our marriages and in our homes by speaking positive, encouraging words to each other.
