THE reason for the season – Part 4

By December 25, 2015No Comments

We celebrate Christmas because of Jesus.  And we’ve been talking about how significant Christmas is and some of the many reasons we celebrate His arrival.

Isaiah 9:6 says

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Lets look at the final name in the list.

It says Jesus would come into this world to be our Wonderful Counselor, our Mighty Warrior God, our forever Daddy and the last thing Isaiah says is this… He will be your Prince of Peace.
So lets talk about this. Lets look at that word Peace. The Hebrew word is shalom.  What does that mean? Shalom means that He wants to give you rest. Some of us need rest. It also means contentment, it means tranquility. But the Bible says that He doesn’t just want to give you this peace, its that He wants to be your Prince of Peace. And so what does prince mean? Prince is the Hebrew word Sar.  And it means that He wants to be the one who calls the shots in your life. It means that He wants to be the leader of over area of your life. It means that He wants to be your Lord. And goes like this. If you want Jesus’ peace, then He needs to be your Prince. He needs to be the one that is in charge of your life.  Now the reason that a lot of people don’t experience the peace of God is because Jesus is not their Prince. But when He is your Prince, when He’s in charge, when you yield to Him and you are letting Him call the shots in your relationships and you let Him call the shots in all the areas of your life, you’ll have this peace that is amazing. It’s an internal peace. Its the peace of God. Its not the peace that some people try to get. The peace of God is so different. It’s like when you become a Christian, the Bible says that God’s Spirit comes to be inside of you. OK Its sounds a little weird. But His Holy Spirit takes residence inside of you. The Bible tells us that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. So His Spirit comes in and your outside world can be trembling and there can be drama going on and family issues going on that are really tough.  It can be just stormy and crazy but when you have the Prince of Peace living in you. He wells up this rest, this tranquility, this rest this contentment and your sitting there going “why do I feel peace when my outside world is crazy?” It’s because that peace comes from the Prince of Peace.

So as you celebrate Christmas this year, don’t miss THE reason for the season!!
