5 basic steps to fasting

By December 15, 2015No Comments

1. Decide why you are fasting.

Fasting does not change God. He is the same before, during and after your fast. But fasting will change you. It helps you control your flesh. If you take the time that you would have been spending on the thing you give up and spend it with God, you will actually get closer to Him. Fasting can bring you closer to God.

2. Pray about the fast you should undertake.

You can fast a food item, your favorite beverage, TV, internet, news, social media, activities, negative thoughts, hopeless attitudes, strife with others, destructive behavior or anything else you can think of that requires you to demonstrate self control.

3. Prepare yourself spiritually.

Get right with God. Prepare your heart. Confess every sin that the Holy Spirit calls to your remembrance and accept God’s forgiveness. (1 John 1:9)

4. Set aside time to be alone with the Lord.

The more you spend time with God, the more meaningful your fast will be. You can spend time with Him by Worship, spending time in His Word and prayer.

Pray for:
His vision for your life and empowerment to do His will.
Heavenly strategies.
Invite God to use you to bring heaven to earth.
Ask Him to show you how to influence your world, family, church, community, country and beyond.
Churches and Church leaders uniting.
Government leaders on all levels.
Judges & courts.
School districts.
Individuals to be on fire for God.
Youth to rise up in their schools.
People to step into their calling.
Individual growth.

Listen for Him to speak to you. God speaks to us in different ways. Mostly He speaks to us through His written Word the Bible. He can also speak directly to your spirit, speak to you in dreams and visions, speak to you through another person and even speak to you with an audible voice.

5. Expect results.

If you sincerely humble yourself before the Lord, repent, pray and seek God’s face; if you consistently meditate on His word, you will experience a heightened awareness of His presence. (James 4:8)
