Trust Fall

By June 18, 2014December 8th, 2015No Comments

Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.   -Proverbs 3:5, 6 NLT

HAVE YOU EVER played the “trust fall” exercise, free falling backwards into someone else’s arms, having to trust that this person is going to catch you before your body hits the ground? The “catcher” comforts you, telling you they’ll catch you, and that it’s going to be okay. But as you are falling you have that brief moment of fear hit you. “I hope they catch me!” Still falling. It seems like forever. Then, to your sweet relief, you feel arms catching you, saving you from the fall. You stand back up, and wonder why you ever doubted this person.

This is exactly what happens in our walk with God. When we begin to think we can do things on our own with our own strength, or “depend on our own understanding,” we lose sight of the fact we don’t have to fear that our God won’t “catch” us. Last week, prior to the Crave youth service, kids and leaders gathered to pray. Many people were asking for direction. It surprised me how many were seeking it out from God, whether it was a graduating senior trying to figure out what to do with their life, or a middle schooler preparing their self for the coming year. Everyone needs direction. We need to remember that the Bible, God’s living Word, tells us that when we seek HIS will in ALL we do, He’ll show us which path to take. We don’t have to fear that we’ll be alone not knowing what to do, or not be “caught” when we step out and trust God. It’s so sweet to trust in Jesus. And Our God is always faithful.

Father God, I thank you that You never leave me or forsake me, even when I stray away. Right now, I ask for Your strength to seek Your will above my own and to trust in You. Help me to remember that You’re going to show me which path to take as I seek You first. Thank you that I don’t have to worry about which way to go, and thank you for Your never-ending love.
