Finances are Important to God

Are your finances important to God?  He speaks of it frequently in His Word.  With as many as 3000+ references to money in the Bible, all indications are it is of some importance.  In fact, the more someone talks about something or writes about something clues you in as to how much importance they place on that subject.  If you really take the time to get to know God, you’ll see just how much finance is woven into God’s relationships with and plans for His people.

There is evidence of its importance in the sign of God’s covenants.  In the original creation, when He planted the garden of Eden He said, “The gold of that land is good.  Bdellium and onyx stone are there.”  He “blessed Abraham to be a blessing” and he promised to make him a great nation.  In the New Testament we are told, “And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  Finally, as we look forward to eternity, we know the streets are made of gold and each gate into the city is a single pearl.

We know from His word that He uses money and finances to bless.  God was so pleased with Solomon that he not only gave him wisdom and honor but riches as well.  Just look at Deuteronomy 28:1-13 where He speaks of blessings overcoming us for obedience to Him.  Just for a moment, close your eyes and imagine yourself being pursued by a blessing.  Think of a game of tag, like when you were a child.  You are running and laughing as the One who blesses is in pursuit.  You can’t run anymore so you fall down as you are literally overtaken by the abundant blessings and richness God showers us with.  Now you just lay there for a moment smiling and soaking in it.  That’s what I think of when I think of that Bible passage.

Finally, we know it by looking at His nature.  All through the amazing stories of the Bible we read about God’s bountiful, overflowing, plentiful and abundant nature.  In Psalm 36:8 we are promised to feast on the abundance and fullness God’s house.  We are told we will have plenty to eat until we are full (Joel 2:26), that he provides us with plenty of food and fills our heart with joy (Acts 14:17) and even in days of famine we will enjoy plenty (Psalm 37:19)!

After all, God owns everything.  All of the earth is His and the fullness thereof.  He owns all the gold and silver and the cattle on 1000 hills!  And what father does not want to bless his children?  God doesn’t mind you having possessions; he just doesn’t want them to possess you.  And that’s where so many people are missing it. According to God, it is not money that is the root of all evil, but the love of money that is the root of all evil.

So we can conclude that money and finances and provision are important to God and the operation of His Kingdom.  Lets learn how to use the blessing of money as a tool to bless others, establish His covenant, support local churches and impact communities, help the poor, give an inheritance to our children and in the process we will be advancing the Kingdom of God here on earth and most importantly, honoring and getting glory to the One who deserves it, our Mighty God!
