From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. -Psalm 61:2
HERE IT IS! One of the busiest times of the year. The end of summer. Shopping for all the school supplies for your children (trying to find the best deals on markers and glue of course), heading to a new state for college, maybe taking on a new job. All this hustle and bustle and so little time! Isn’t it easy to get caught up in the crazy seasons of life and get easily overwhelmed at all the tasks at hand? Looking at the to-do list for the day asking yourself, “How in the world am I going to accomplish all of these things without losing it!?”
Trust me I’ve been there. But this verse answers it! “I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Another translation says “…when my heart is overwhelmed…” It is so encouraging to me, and I believe should be encouraging to you, knowing that when everything is up and down, unpredictable, wavering, we serve a God who does not move. “The rock that is higher than I.” The one who never changes, the one who is always faithful. The one who is your refuge in the hard times, the rock that is HIGHER and STRONGER than all that we face. We can call to him when we are overwhelmed, when we are tired. Whether it’s exhaustion from taking your kids to the grocery store and them asking to buy every single thing you pass, or working 50 hours a week at your job week after week and not knowing how you can keep pushing on, our God hears us when we call and He will answer. He is the rock whom we can find our rest in.
Father God,
I thank you that You never move. I thank you for being our sure foundation and strength when we don’t think we can go on any longer. God, this week I ask You to remind me of Your faithfulness, and help me to remember that when I’m overwhelmed I can call to You. I thank you for Your love and Your strength to get me through each day. In Jesus’ name.
