Chances are that you know someone who had an illness, whether it is a friend of the family or the friend of a friend. But when illness strikes you or someone in your family, somehow it takes things to a whole new level of seriousness. Hearing a doctor say words like, “you only have 6 months to live” or “I am sorry but you child won’t live past the age of 5” can be enough to bring a person to the breaking point, to the very point of desparation. A very natural reaction to this is devastation. A flood of emotions. Maybe even panic.
In this situation people will desperately seek healing. People go to special clinics, travel to other countries for treatments and probably at some point in the process say, “we need a miracle!” I am not discouraging people to seek medical treatment, but if you end up asking for a miracle anyway, why wait? Why not seek the Healer Himself. Knowing who God is and what His word says about healing should be at the top of your priority list. The Bible has scripture after scripture about God as our healer. How he sent His Word, Jesus, the Word made flesh, to heal us. There are 19 cases recorded in the Bible, where Jesus healed individuals and multiple cases where the scriptures record that Jesus healed them all.
We also know from His word, that God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34) and that He is the same today as He was then and He never changes (Mal 3:6). So what He said to those people then. He is saying to you today. God says,
“…For I am the LORD who heals you.” (Ex. 15:26)
“…And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.” (Ex. 23:25)
“The LORD will give strength to His people…” (Ps. 29:11)
“…And by His stripes we are healed.” (Isa. 53:5)
“…And I will heal him.” (Isa. 57:19)
“…He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses.” (Matt. 8:17)
“And Jesus went about …, teaching …, preaching …, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.” (Matt. 4:23)
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)
“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness–by whose stripes you were healed.” (1 Pet. 2:24)
“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,” (2 Pet. 1:3)
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2)
just to list a few. Get in touch with the Healer. God is still in the miracle business. He also says, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” (Jer 29:13) So open up your Bible and find out what God has to say about healing. Get plugged in to a good church and get around people who know.
